Seeking a career that would tap Laura’s writing and marketing skills and also offer unlimited potential for success, Laura embarked on her real estate career in early 2002. She was hired by a boutique real estate office in Solana Beach to be the Broker/Owner’s assistant. There, she earned her California real estate sales license and has been selling and buying homes for clients ever since.
Laura is a member in excellent standing with the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors, California Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing. From Oceanside to the border and La Jolla to Campo, Laura has helped San Diegans sell and buy $1/2 Billion Dollars in local real estate.
According to MLS data, since 2003, Laura has sold more homes in La Mesa than any other agent. Important to note: many of her transactions are outside La Mesa; Laura services all San Diego County!
Though hard work and a flair for marketing have provided Laura robust business; the third ingredient - she feels - placing her in the top 1.49% of agents nationwide is her philosophy that "good enough" is not good enough.
If that means re-shooting photos because a living room carpet was crooked, she goes back, straightens the carpet, and takes the photos again. It means never leaving appraisals to chance, she attends every appraisal to personally deliver her support for price and to show the appraiser features of the home justifying selling price.
Laura always makes sure her clients are pleased with the sale of their home, thrilled with their purchase of a home and delighted with their relationship with her. The buck always stops with her and no matter what problems arise in a transaction, they are fixed and fixed by Laura.
Laura has maintained a perfect record of no legal hassles for her clients: zero mediations, zero arbitrations, zero lawsuits & zero insurance claims. In a litigious society with hundreds of millions in sales, this accomplishment speaks volumes about Laura’s integrity and fidelity to her clients. Whenever Laura runs into a past client, it is hugs and “Happy to See You!” (If the client is the huggy type)
As someone who cares deeply about her town and country, Laura won a seat on the La Mesa City Council in a special election in November 2021 and was reelected in November 2022.
She is a former newspaper editor-in-chief/journalist and graduate of California State University, Long Beach, earning her BA in Journalism. She has served on the Pacific Southwest Board of Realtors and as Vice-Chair of the Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors Government Affairs. She served on La Mesa Village business boards since 2008.
She is the proud mom of three wonderful young adults: Mack, residing in Huntington Beach, CA, and an Account Executive for SHI International; Lainey, residing in Nashville and a Project Analyst for Wood Partners Real Estate Development; and Milly, residing in Del Mar, CA, owner of Milly Media LLC and partner in flipping a home in Chapel Hill.
Lainey is married to Mike Sylvan, and Milly is married to Ben Read, a just-retired Navy pilot. Mack is engaged to Jackie Allyn, with whom he shares their beautiful baby girl Georgia.
